During these travels, she comes upon a kindred spirit, the young Umino Hiroshi, upon whom she bestows the mantle of Tochiro, the famed engineer whom Hiroshi idolizes, and in Emeraldas's eyes, whose spirit he embodies.This is a spin-off of the Harlock series by Leiji Matsumoto. Matsumoto also wrote 'Uchuu Senkan Yamato' (a.k.a. Space Battleship Yamato), Shin taketori monogatari: 1000-nen joou, Ginga Tetsudou 999 and Uchuu Koukyoushi Maetel ~Ginga Tetsudo 999 Gaiden~ .
