In the castle town of Midland, a new king has come to power through treachery and violence. His demonic agents relentlessly victimize the townspeople, until the night a battle weary soldier enters the city. Covered in an array of weapons and countless battle scars, he calls himself the Black Swordsman. The sword he carries is as big as his grudge against the king. Blade in hand he hunts the servants of evil with unending vengeful fury. Kentaro Miura is the author & artist of this still-running manga series. 36 tankoubon have been released so far. This series is published in Japan by Jets Comics and in America by Dark Horse Comics.

In addition to the anime adaptation of the manga, there have also been multiple video games and a trading card game.

It looks like a Japanese studio will be releasing a Berserk movie. They just updated some information about it and posted some short previews, which you can see below. It was supposed to come out in 2011, but all the earthquakes and stuff in Japan may have delayed the release.
